Tired

I'm so tired!  I spent four hours yesterday in a marathon length salsa class, which was very good - now I need to practice, although today, I can't contemplate moving at all.  But I will have to, as I have a tango class this afternoon.

Luckily, one key difference between salsa and tango, at least for me, is that salsa is not so mentally challenging.  If my brain was tired, there's no way I'd make it through a tango class.

Update

After nearly fourth months...

* I'm looking to change jobs again (I have been at my current one since October 07 and it's a dead end to nowhere)
* I'm taking tango lessons (I have fallen for the teacher, of course)
* I have taken some introductory salsa lessons (I don't know how I'm going to be able to continue those, but we'll see)
* I am playing tennis socially about once a month
* My cat is well (he has a new collar and I don't think he realises it glows inthe dark)
* I have tried to learn Spanish but had to give up because my job interfered with lessons
* I'm stalled on tidying up my Nanowrimo from 07

These are the main things, I think!

Yesterday was an unfortunate day - a stray cat has been visiting my parents house for some weeks.  This cat was clearly an unneutered Tom, so really only ever turned up for meals before heading off to do whatever it is a tom cat does (including, quite clearly, getting bashed up). When I visited yesterday this cat had arrived, but was huddled down the side of the house, having trouble breathing.  We ended up taking him to the vet where he ended up having to be euthanased.  Accidents happen, but it seems that some people too willingly take on and then abandon responsibility for animals.

Update

Nearly a month since I last checked in - a long time, even for me these days.  The last time I wrote I was writing about NaNoWriMo - which I finished and am now doing a quick revision of.  I don't know how tidy I am going to get it, and if I get it really tidy, what I am going to do with it.

A thunderstorm has just finished in Sydney - just a part of the topsy turvy weather we are having here this summer.  Yesterday was a perfect day and most of today was all right too.

I am really looking forward to the Christmas break - I have nothing planned, but it will be good to rest.  It's been a tough last couple of months on the work front.  I've been at my new place two months and they're not very friendly, so I just go to work, work and go home again.  We'll see how long I stay there, but at the moment, moving is not at the top of my list of priorities.

My cat, who lives with my parents, is dealing with a stray cat who comes around for meals.  They seem to have reached some sense of balance now - the stray cat is an unneutered tom and scraggy.  My cat is neutered, and in spite of his (treated) health problems, looks, even if I do say so myself, pretty good.  You wouldn't pick him for being fourteen years old.

I'm pushing ahead with my word count which is a relief.  Wherever I am with it, I'm still not sure what's going to come after the next couple of thousand words. but so far, by the time I get to the end of them, I can think of the next ones.

I've come to the end of a short course of Spanish lessons, and I'm hoping to continue into next week, but that will depend on whether there are enough people in the class.  The same thing has happened with tennis - not enough people for a class, so no more lessons there either.  No one ever seems to want to do any of these things with me (there's a lot of talk, but no action).  At least with writing you don't need help from anyone.

NaNoWriMo

It's that time of year again, and I'm now well in the middle of NaNoWriMo, the annual 50,000 word dash in November.  You can find all about it at nanowrimo.org

I've taken a diversion into nanowrimo to play with some of the widgets that the people there have kindly made.

I haven't decided which one will go in my header, if I attend to that before Nanowrimo is over.  I'm about on target for this challenge, but not that far in front, so I'd better get on with it.

It's been quite a busy week or so - I've been working very hard (for a change) and when I've not been working, I've been doing nothing (no housework either).  This weekend is the time to try and catch up with a few things (no time to even make phone calls during the week).  The most aggravating thing about that is that I'm expecting a parcel, which hasn't arrived and when I called the company, they said they couldn't handle it on the weekend and I'd have to call during the week.  Guess it's the last time I do any business with that company!

Tomorrow I'm catching up with a friend, and if I get up early enough, I'll watch the Rugby World Cup final

A change is almost as good as a holiday

  • Reading: Making Globalization Work
I resigned from my job on Monday, and today I was told that my notice would be abridged so that I can start at my new job on Thursday, instead of some time early November.  Finally I will be doing something for a change, instead of stagnating the way I have over the last six weeks.  There will be a farewell morning tea tomorrow (for me and for four others who've also decided to leave - we've all had our notice periods cut short).  I took last week off work, mainly to take care of things like doing my tax return and the dentist, so thankfully I am not really in need of a break between jobs.

Update 2

Things are still pretty tense with the work situation but in the next week I will have accepted a new job offer (I have one already, and I'm likely to get another next week, so then I get to choose).

Meanwhile I have a week off work, which is something I've been hanging out for a long time.  I've just bought a bike (not a motorbike) so I'm going off to explore the neighbourhood.

I have also joined facebook which is proving to be quite addictive!

Update

Just a quick updfate - I'm having a stormy time at work as upheavals higher up are making everyone reconsider their position.  I will probably be following my boss to another company but I am looking at other options too.  The usual suspects are smarming their way into the good books of those who are staying - the worst of them is not only crawling towards a particular boss, he's also slagging him off behind his back, so I'll be glad to leave them behind.  It will be a while before anything is certain though.
